Search teams were combing a Libertyville waterway Friday after an Evanston man went missing, bringing police, a drone and planned sonar equipment to the Des Plaines River corridor.
Libertyville police said officers responded around 3:40 p.m. to the area of Lake Minear and the Des Plaines River Trail to assist Lake County Forest Preserve Police. The man was last seen near a Lake County forest preserve after leaving his home in Evanston, according to CBS Chicago.
Drone And Sonar Search Focuses On Lake Minear
Authorities deployed a drone as part of the operation, while Libertyville Fire Chief Mike Pakosta said crews planned to use sonar equipment to search Lake Minear. The search area sits along a public recreation corridor that includes the Des Plaines River Trail and canoe access, according to the Lake County Forest Preserves, which advises visitors that launching is at their own risk and requires approved flotation gear.
Officials had not released the man's name, age, or description in the latest public report, and they had not said whether the river or lake played a role in his disappearance. CBS Chicago reported that further information was not immediately available as the search continued Friday evening.
