Man, 55 to 60, Sought After Girl, 10, Molested at Humboldt Park Pool

A man in his late 50s or early 60s approached a 10-year-old girl at the Humboldt Park swimming pool and touched her inappropriately in broad daylight, according to Chicago police, who are still searching for him more than two weeks after the assault. Officers responded to the pool at 3041 West Augusta Boulevard at approximately 2:25 p.m. on August 12 after the girl was groped, and no arrest has been made.

The precise location marks a detail that early coverage of the case did not include. While ABC7 Chicago reported the assault occurred in the 3000 block of West Augusta Boulevard, CWB Chicago confirmed the incident happened specifically at the neighborhood's public outdoor pool, a facility that draws families and children throughout the summer. The case has been logged under RD number JK370440.

What Police Say the Suspect Looked Like

Chicago police describe the suspect as a White man between 55 and 60 years old, weighing between 150 and 170 pounds, with short gray hair. At the time of the assault, he was wearing a pink t-shirt, brown shorts, brown sandals and brown sunglasses, and he carried a black bag. Police say he rode away from the pool on a black bicycle. An official community bulletin issued under the same case number by the Chicago Police Department's 12th District, which covers Humboldt Park, West Town and the surrounding West Side, laid out those same identifying details in hopes that someone in the community recognizes him.

What Charges Could Look Like

Under Illinois law, sexual contact with a child under 13 by someone at least five years older is classified as Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse, a Class 2 felony. A conviction carries a prison sentence of three to seven years, fines of up to $25,000, and mandatory sex offender registration lasting at least 10 years or, in some cases, for life. No suspect has been identified or arrested in this case as of now, and it remains unclear whether charges will ultimately be filed.

A Pattern of Alerts in Humboldt Park

This is not the first time this year that Chicago police have flagged a public safety threat targeting someone in Humboldt Park. In June, residents near the western edge of the 606 Bloomingdale Trail tackled a 56-year-old suspect who was later charged with felony aggravated criminal sexual abuse after allegedly groping a female jogger, as Hoodline previously reported. In May, police issued a separate alert after bystanders on North Pulaski Road stepped in to stop a suspect attempting to abduct a resident at knifepoint.

West Augusta Boulevard itself has drawn police attention before. In May 2025, a 45-year-old man was shot and killed in the 3800 block of the same street in an ambush involving two gunmen, an unsolved case that remains part of the corridor's troubled recent history. The 12th District, which polices the area from its station on Blue Island Avenue, oversees public safety across several major West Side parks, including Humboldt Park.
