A man was hospitalized after a train struck him early Tuesday in Cincinnati’s Hartwell neighborhood, where police said he appeared to have wandered onto the tracks. His injuries were reported as non-life-threatening.
The incident happened around 5:30 a.m. near Anthony Wayne Avenue and Hartwell Avenue, according to Local 12. Authorities took the man to a hospital, but his identity was not released in the initial report.
Hartwell Corridor Had Already Been Flagged For Safety Work
Separate from Tuesday’s train strike, the Cincinnati Department of Transportation & Engineering listed Anthony Wayne between Mystic and Oakmont as an unfunded pedestrian-safety priority in its 2024 request list, according to city records. A newer traffic-calming list also identifies Anthony Wayne from Hartwell Avenue north for a quarter-mile, while the recommended capital budget includes $80,000 in fiscal year 2027 for Anthony Wayne curb extensions, per the city budget.
Police had not publicly detailed what led the man onto the tracks or said whether the train’s movement was disrupted. The investigation was still underway, Local 12 reported.
