Memphis is heading into a dangerous Sunday of full sun, triple-digit heat and humidity that could make it feel like 114°F. Early-morning conditions were clear with temperatures around 82°F at Memphis International Airport. By late afternoon, the actual temperature is expected to reach 102°F.
Extreme Heat Warning Through Sunday Evening
An Extreme Heat Warning remains in effect through 8 p.m. Sunday, according to the National Weather Service. Heat-related illnesses can increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity, especially for people spending extended time outdoors.
Sunday will stay sunny and nearly rain-free, with only a 1% chance of precipitation. West-southwest winds of 5 to 10 mph may stir the air a little, but they will not provide meaningful relief during the hottest part of the day.
Tonight Offers Little Recovery
Clear skies will continue Sunday night, but the low will only fall to around 80°F. Humidity could keep the heat index as high as 111°F overnight, leaving little chance for the body, buildings or pavement to cool down.
Monday Brings More Heat And A Few Storm Chances
Monday will remain dangerously hot, with a high near 100°F and heat-index values as high as 113°F. A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms arrives after 5 p.m., with a better chance Monday night before 1 a.m.; rainfall totals are expected to stay below a tenth of an inch.
Tuesday should be sunny with a high near 98°F, followed by another sunny 101-degree day Wednesday. More noticeable storm chances arrive Thursday and Friday, when highs ease to around 95°F and 93°F, respectively.
Some Relief Arrives By The Weekend
Saturday is currently forecast to be sunny with a high near 92°F, while nighttime lows dip into the low 70s by Friday and Saturday night. That cooler trend should offer the first meaningful break from the oppressive heat that has dominated the week.

Officials are urging residents to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air conditioning, avoid direct sun and check on relatives and neighbors. Children and pets should never be left in unattended vehicles, where temperatures can become lethal within minutes.
