Memphis is heading into a dangerous stretch of summer heat, with clear skies Saturday and temperatures climbing to about 101 degrees. The heat index could reach 108, making outdoor plans and errands feel significantly more punishing than the thermometer suggests.
Extreme Heat Warning Covers The Weekend
The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Warning through 8 p.m. Sunday for Memphis and surrounding parts of West Tennessee and North Mississippi. The National Weather Service in Memphis says heat-index values could reach 111 during the warning period.
Saturday night will offer little relief, with mostly clear skies and a low near 79. Even after sunset, heat-index readings could remain as high as 106, keeping conditions stressful for people without reliable air conditioning and for those working or exercising outdoors.
Sunday Could Be The Hottest Day
Sunday is forecast to be sunny with a high near 103 and a heat index as high as 113. Southwest winds of 5 to 10 mph may provide some movement in the air, but they will not erase the risk from several consecutive days of extreme heat.
The heat will ease only slightly early next week, with highs near 100 Monday, 99 Tuesday and 101 Wednesday. Rain chances stay low through most of that stretch, though a few showers or thunderstorms could develop Wednesday night, followed by a better chance of storms Thursday.

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in air conditioning when possible and avoid prolonged time in direct sun during the afternoon.
