Miami started Wednesday clear and already in the low 80s, but the heat will quickly become the day’s main story. Temperatures are expected to climb into the mid-90s, with the heat index reaching dangerous levels by late morning.
A Heat Advisory is in effect across South Florida from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, with heat index values between 105 and 112. The National Weather Service in Miami advises residents to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air conditioning when possible, avoid direct sun and check on relatives and neighbors.
Late-Day Storms Could Break Up The Heat
Wednesday will stay sunny for most of the day, with west to northwest winds around 5 to 12 mph and a high in the mid-90s. Showers and thunderstorms become more likely after 4 p.m., with scattered storms potentially lingering into the evening before skies turn partly cloudy overnight.
After Miami reached 100 degrees Tuesday, another record-challenging afternoon is possible. The official forecast calls for a high near 94, but some area forecasts point toward the upper 90s, and the weather service says another trip to 100 degrees cannot be ruled out.
Storm Chances Build Through The Weekend
Thursday should be slightly cooler, with a high near 91 and a heat index as high as 111. Thunderstorm chances increase after noon, with a 40% chance of rain before storms become more scattered Thursday night.
Friday through Sunday will bring highs around 91, mostly sunny starts and a 30% to 40% chance of afternoon or evening showers and thunderstorms. Monday currently looks sunnier and drier, although the heat will remain, with another high near 91.
