Miami Sizzles Under 110-Degree Heat Index Before Rush-Hour Storms Slam South Florida

Miami starts Thursday under clear skies, but the calm morning will give way to dangerous heat and a round of afternoon storms. Temperatures near 81°F early will climb to about 91°F, while high humidity makes it feel closer to 110°F during the afternoon.

A Heat Advisory is in effect from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday across South Florida, with the National Weather Service warning that hot temperatures and humidity could cause heat-related illness. Drink plenty of fluids, seek air conditioning or shade, and limit strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest hours.

Afternoon Storms Could Complicate The Commute

Mostly sunny conditions should hold through early afternoon before showers and thunderstorms become more likely after 2 p.m. Rain chances rise to around 40%, with roughly a tenth to a quarter-inch of rain possible in the stronger downpours.

Some storms could bring heavy rain, sharply reduced visibility and wind gusts reaching 40 to 50 mph. Repeated storms over the same areas may also trigger localized flooding, so drivers should be ready for sudden slowdowns and water-covered roads later Thursday.

Sticky Night Leads Into A Stormier Weekend

Thursday night stays warm, with a low near 84°F and a heat index as high as 105°F before storms taper off around 9 p.m. Skies should turn partly cloudy afterward, but the humidity will remain firmly in charge.

Friday through Sunday will bring highs near 90°F, mostly sunny mornings and a 30% to 40% chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms. Rain chances ease somewhat Monday, then increase again Tuesday and Wednesday, while temperatures remain above normal for late August.
