A 47-year-old Manhattan psychotherapist is facing rape charges after prosecutors say he sexually assaulted a 16-year-old transgender boy during a counseling session, and police are asking whether other clients may have been victimized. The case centers on allegations that a setting meant to provide safety became the site of an alleged abuse.
According to amNewYork, Remington Yhap was arrested last Wednesday on three counts of rape and one count of endangering the welfare of a child. The criminal complaint alleges that the teen was receiving counseling from Yhap and that the alleged assault occurred during a June 15 session at Liberation Psychotherapy in Midtown. Prosecutors also allege that Yhap asked the teen sexual questions, showed him photos of nude people and forced him into sexual acts, including oral sex. Yhap has not been convicted, and the allegations remain accusations in court.

Police Ask Other Potential Victims To Come Forward
The NYPD’s Manhattan Special Victims Squad is asking anyone who believes they were victimized by Yhap to report it. The department says its 24-hour sex-crimes hotline can be reached at 212-267-7273 or 646-610-7272, according to the NYPD.
Yhap was arraigned last Thursday before Judge Juliet Howard in New York County Criminal Court and released on $75,000 bail, amNewYork reported. He is due back in court on Oct. 1, while a spokesperson for Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office said the investigation remains ongoing.

The arrest puts the allegations into the criminal court system, but it does not establish guilt. Investigators could pursue additional complaints if other people come forward, while prosecutors will have to prove the existing charges beyond a reasonable doubt.
