A Nashville man is jailed on three felony charges after investigators say he admitted sexually assaulting a girl who was between 6 and 8 years old while using methamphetamine. Christopher Smoak, 37, is scheduled for a judge’s review Wednesday as the case moves through Davidson County court.
According to WSMV, Smoak allegedly made the admission during a June police interview involving unrelated charges. Arrest papers say he had been read his Miranda rights before investigators questioned him, while the child described the alleged assault during a forensic interview in March.
Three Felony Charges And A $200,000 Bond
The Davidson County Sheriff’s Office lists two counts of felony rape of a child and one count of aggravated sexual battery involving someone under 13. The combined bond is listed at $200,000, but the sheriff’s record says Smoak is currently subject to a hold and is not eligible for release.
The three cases are open and pending, according to the Davidson County Criminal Court Clerk. A judge is scheduled to review the cases Wednesday morning at 9:55, with the court listing Smoak’s status as pending rather than convicted.
Prior Violent Felony Conviction Appears In Court Records
WSMV reported that court records show Smoak was found guilty in Nashville in 2011 on three felony aggravated assault charges involving a deadly weapon. That prior case is separate from the current allegations, and Smoak is presumed innocent unless the new charges are proven in court.
