Monday should stay sunny and nearly rain-free, with northwest winds of 0 to 5 mph and just a 2% chance of precipitation. Slightly drier air will make conditions feel a bit less punishing than last week, although the National Weather Service says most locations could still see heat-index readings at or below about 105 degrees.
Tonight will be mostly clear, but not exactly sweater weather, with temperatures falling only to around 79. Tuesday will bring another sunny day and a high near 93, keeping the early week focused more on heat than rain.
Afternoon Storms Return Midweek
The forecast turns more unsettled Wednesday and Thursday, when highs reach 94 and 93, respectively. Both days bring a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 p.m., so outdoor plans may need a backup option even though much of the city could remain dry.
More Humidity Builds Into The Weekend
Gulf moisture is expected to return from Thursday night into the weekend, raising rain chances to 30% Friday and Saturday and 40% Sunday. Highs should stay in the lower 90s, with overnight lows near 79 and storms becoming more common during the afternoon.
Any stronger storm could bring frequent lightning, a brief gusty wind or a locally heavy downpour. No watches or warnings are in effect for the New Orleans area Monday, but the pattern will become wetter and stickier as the weekend approaches.
