New Orleans police arrested the employee, and the New Orleans Police Department notified OPSO on Friday, July 31, according to WGNO. The sheriff's office said it will fully cooperate with the NOPD investigation, while public details about the specific substance, amount and alleged transaction remain limited.
Investigators are examining acts connected to the person's employment with OPSO in 2024. The facts released so far do not identify where the alleged conduct occurred beyond indicating it was not on OPSO property.

The arrest is not the first recent OPSO employee case involving alleged misconduct. A FOX 8 investigation reported in 2024 that five OPSO jail guards had been arrested in a little more than a year in cases involving alleged contraband smuggling, including allegations involving drugs and payments.
