A North Miami woman was hospitalized Tuesday after her neighbor’s gun unexpectedly discharged while he was cleaning it, sending a bullet into her leg. What began as routine firearm maintenance quickly turned into a neighborhood emergency.
North Miami police responded to the incident, and detectives found the woman suffering from a gunshot wound, according to WSVN 7News. Paramedics transported her to HCA Florida Aventura Hospital, while officials said the neighbor’s gun had accidentally discharged and struck her.
Miami-Dade Range Rules Stress Unloaded Firearms
The county’s own Trail Glades Range lists three basic handling rules: keep a firearm pointed in a safe direction, keep a finger off the trigger until ready to shoot and keep the gun unloaded until it is ready for use, according to Miami-Dade County. The range also advises users to understand how their firearm operates before handling it.
The North Miami case comes weeks after a separate Miami-Dade incident in which a Redland man was seriously injured when a firearm discharged while he was handling it, as previously reported by a similar Redland case. Authorities have not released additional details about Tuesday’s shooting, and the investigation remains underway.
