Overnight Shooting Hits Same Frayser Block Where DEA Killed Man in May

Memphis police officers responded overnight to a shooting call in the 2600 block of North Hollywood Street in Frayser, though it remains unclear whether anyone was hurt or who may have fired the shots. The call adds another entry to a stretch of North Memphis that has already drawn heavy law enforcement attention this year.

According to WREG, Memphis police confirmed the shooting was reported in Frayser, but the outlet noted that both the injury status of any potential victims and the identity of a shooter remain unconfirmed. The report, credited to WREG's Deja Davis with a photo from the station's Quintin Bearkley, did not detail how many shots were fired, whether shell casings were recovered, or if any vehicles were involved. The same block carries recent history. Three months earlier, on May 13, the 2600 block of North Hollywood Street was the scene of a fatal officer-involved shooting inside a Burger King, when Drug Enforcement Administration agents assigned to the Memphis Safe Task Force shot 41-year-old Darrin Pigram while attempting to serve an arrest warrant, according to The 901 Report. DA Clears Federal Agent in May Shooting

Shelby County District Attorney Steve Mulroy announced on July 20 that no criminal charges would be filed against the federal task force agent involved in the May 13 shooting, concluding after a Tennessee Bureau of Investigation inquiry that the use of deadly force was legally justified. The 901 Report notes that the DA's office reviewed surveillance footage and state force statutes before closing the investigation.

That resolution came just weeks before the overnight call on North Hollywood Street, though nothing in available reporting ties the two incidents together beyond location. Other recent Frayser gun violence cases have moved through the courts.
