A 92-year-old Palm Beach County woman died Tuesday, nearly three weeks after her Kia Soul crashed into the back of a garbage truck and then struck two mailboxes, a garbage can and a shrub. Adrianna Getz survived the July 15 collision on Rose Hill Drive but later died from her injuries. The update arrived through a crash report reviewed by local media.
According to CBS12, Getz was driving on Rose Hill Drive when her car hit the truck's left rear bumper. The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office crash report says the impact pushed the Kia into two mailboxes, a garbage can and a shrub, while Palm Beach County Fire Rescue transported her to Delray Medical Center.
Florida's Older-Driver Crash Numbers Add Context
This was one local crash, not evidence that age caused it. Still, the broader numbers are notable: A National Highway Traffic Safety Administration report counted 758 Florida drivers age 65 and older involved in fatal crashes in 2023, the highest raw total of any state.
NHTSA also cautions that driving decisions should not be based on age alone, while noting that changes in vision, physical fitness, attention and reaction time can affect safety. The agency recommends assessing those changes and considering vehicle adaptations or other transportation options when needed.
Getz was pronounced dead at 12:04 a.m. Tuesday at Delray Medical Center, CBS12 reported. The station's account did not provide additional details about what led to the Kia striking the garbage truck.
