Phoenix started Saturday clear and already near 97 degrees, with the Valley headed for an afternoon high around 115. An Extreme Heat Warning remains in effect as dangerously hot conditions settle over the metro area through Monday, August 3.
Saturday Brings Near-Record Heat
Temperatures will climb quickly, reaching about 100 degrees by midmorning and 110 around noon before peaking near 115 in the midafternoon. The heat index could reach 114, while west to southwest winds stay mostly light but may gust into the teens later in the day.
Saturday night will offer little relief, with a low around 92 and heat-index values as high as 111. Skies should remain mostly clear, so the pavement and buildings will have plenty of time to hold onto the heat after sunset.
Extreme Heat Warning Runs Through Monday
The National Weather Service Phoenix says afternoon temperatures across the lower deserts could run from 110 to 117 degrees, creating major to extreme heat risks across the region. The warning is scheduled to continue until 8 p.m. Monday, August 3.
Residents should avoid strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day, drink plenty of water and take frequent breaks in shade or air conditioning. Anyone showing signs of heat stroke should be moved to a cool place and treated as an emergency by calling 911.
For cooling centers, transportation, water and other heat-relief assistance, Maricopa County advises residents to call 2-1-1.
Temperatures Ease Slowly Next Week
Sunday will remain brutally hot with a high near 113, followed by another 113-degree high Monday. The forecast then dips to 110 Tuesday and around 108 Wednesday and Thursday, but overnight lows will still mostly stay in the upper 80s to low 90s.
Rain chances remain minimal through Monday, with a slight chance of showers or thunderstorms arriving late Tuesday night and continuing into Wednesday. The chance of precipitation is around 20%, and any new rainfall is expected to total less than a tenth of an inch.
Storm chances may increase across south-central Arizona later in the week as moisture returns, but gusty outflow winds could arrive before any meaningful rain does. Friday is currently expected to be mostly sunny with a high near 109 and another slight chance of afternoon or evening storms.
