Portland woke up under cloudy skies near 59°F Thursday, but the gray is on a short lease. The city is headed for a mostly sunny afternoon and a high near 85°F, with patchy smoke expected to bring a hazy finish after 2 p.m.
Morning clouds should thin by midday as temperatures climb through the 60s and 70s. The National Weather Service Portland says wildfire smoke could drift over portions of the region, with some of it possibly mixing down to the surface.
Smoke Fades As Warm Weather Sticks
Smoke may linger before midnight Thursday, followed by partly cloudy skies and a low around 61°F. North to northwest winds should remain light, generally between 1 and 6 mph.
Friday brings mostly sunny skies and a high near 85°F, while Saturday should be nearly identical with sunshine and a high around 84°F. Sunday stays warm at about 85°F, although clouds increase Sunday night as temperatures dip to around 60°F.
Small Rain Chance Arrives Monday
The forecast becomes a little less settled early next week. Monday should be partly sunny with a high near 85°F and a slight chance of light rain after 5 p.m.
Tuesday cools slightly to around 82°F with a small rain chance before 5 p.m., followed by Wednesday’s high near 80°F and a slight chance of morning rain. With no watches, warnings or advisories posted, Portland’s weather story is mostly straightforward: warm afternoons, cooler nights and one smoky detour Thursday.
