A walk before dawn ended with a 32-year-old man shot in the right arm in Chicago's Fernwood neighborhood Tuesday, police said. The man was expected to be OK after the early-morning shooting near a Dollar General and gas station.
The shooting happened around 3 a.m. in the 200 block of West 103rd Street, according to ABC7 Chicago. The victim was walking outside when he heard gunshots and felt pain before being taken to Trinity Hospital.
Evidence Markers Covered The Street Near Local Businesses
At least a dozen numbered evidence markers were visible near the Dollar General and gas station as investigators worked the scene later that morning. The initial report did not identify a suspect or provide a possible motive.
Chicago Shooting Numbers Remain Above Last Year's Pace
The shooting comes as Chicago's citywide totals remain slightly above last year's pace. WTTW News, citing Chicago Police Department data, reported in July that the city had recorded 686 shootings and 858 shooting victims through June, with shootings up 4% from the same period in 2025.
