A woman was killed overnight after a vehicle struck her on Illinois Route 394 and fled, leaving a fatal hit-and-run in Chicago’s south suburbs. The crash happened between Sunday night and Monday morning, as investigators began piecing together what happened.
The victim was a pedestrian, according to CBS News Chicago. The early report provided few additional details, including no public identification of the woman or description of the vehicle involved.
Illinois Law Requires Drivers To Stop After Fatal Crashes
Under Illinois Vehicle Code Section 11-401, a driver involved in a crash that causes injury or death must stop, remain at the scene and fulfill requirements to provide information and assistance, according to the Illinois General Assembly. The statute also requires a driver who leaves to report the crash to police or a sheriff’s office as soon as possible, generally within 30 minutes.
Route 394 Has Seen Other Fatal Crashes
The latest death follows other fatal-crash investigations along the same south-suburban corridor. In June 2025, Hoodline reported that a separate crash near Steger Road in Sauk Village left one person dead and closed the southbound lanes for several hours.
No arrest or charges were reported in the initial account of Monday’s hit-and-run. CBS News Chicago said further information was limited as the investigation continued.
