A Salt Lake City Bumble date ended with a 24-year-old man in custody Sunday after police accused him of taking the woman to his home, forcing her to undress and sexually assaulting her. The case now includes six felony counts, including aggravated kidnapping, object rape and forcible sodomy.
Alexander Davis Grayson was arrested in Salt Lake City after police served a warrant at his home, according to ABC4 Utah. He faces two counts of object rape, one count of forcible sodomy, one count of aggravated kidnapping and two counts of forcible sexual abuse.
Police Say The Date Moved From South Jordan To A Home
Police said the woman met Grayson on Bumble and went with him to a restaurant in South Jordan. During the date, he allegedly made multiple sexual comments that left her uncomfortable before taking her to his Salt Lake City home.
The woman told police she asked Grayson to take her home, but he allegedly did not do so. Instead, police say, he forced her to take off her clothes, sexually assaulted and raped her, then became angry because she did not enjoy the encounter.
According to the police account reported by ABC4, Grayson later told the woman to clean herself up in a bathroom. She also told investigators she believed he may have been taking photographs and said she saw multiple pill bottles bearing his name.
Victim Reported The Alleged Assault To Family
Salt Lake City police responded to a sexual-assault report on July 14, after the woman told a family member what happened. She received a sexual assault examination at a hospital and provided investigators with descriptions of Grayson's vehicle and home, police said.
Police said Grayson had also been a suspect in three previous sexual-offense cases. ABC4 Utah did not report whether those earlier investigations resulted in charges or were connected to the current case.
What The Charges Mean Under Utah Law
The object-rape counts and forcible sodomy count are first-degree felonies, while the two forcible sexual abuse counts are second-degree felonies, according to the charges described by police. Utah law defines object rape as nonconsensual penetration involving a foreign object, substance, instrument, device or body part other than the mouth or genitals, and separately defines forcible sodomy as sexual conduct without consent.
The relevant statutes are outlined by the Utah Legislature for object rape and by the state's forcible-sodomy statute. The aggravated-kidnapping allegation appears to stem from police saying Grayson kept the woman from returning home after she asked to leave.
The charges remain allegations, and Grayson is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court. Salt Lake City police say sexual-assault survivors can also use the department's anonymous reporting system or contact the Rape Recovery Center and Utah's 24-hour sexual-violence hotline, as detailed by the Salt Lake City Police Department.
