Salt Lake City is waking up clear and already near 79°F Saturday morning, with another day of dangerous heat ahead. Temperatures are expected to climb to about 101°F, while the overnight low stays near 77°F and offers little chance to recover.
Saturday Brings The Worst Of The Heat
Mostly sunny skies and light north winds will accompany Saturday’s heat, with only a slight chance of rain. The National Weather Service has an Extreme Heat Warning in effect through midnight Sunday night for Salt Lake Valley and surrounding areas.
Saturday night will remain partly cloudy and unusually warm, with temperatures hovering in the upper 70s. Residents are urged to drink plenty of fluids, use air conditioning when possible, avoid strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest hours, and never leave children or pets in unattended vehicles.
Smoke And Storms Build Sunday
Sunday should reach near 99°F, with patchy smoke expected before noon and lingering into the afternoon. A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms arrives later in the day, bringing the possibility of lightning, brief heavy rain, and sudden, erratic wind gusts near storms.
Relief Arrives In Steps
Monday remains hot at around 97°F, followed by highs near 96°F Tuesday and 91°F Wednesday. Temperatures ease to about 88°F Thursday and 85°F Friday as shower and thunderstorm chances increase, though storms could still produce localized heavy rain and flash-flooding concerns in vulnerable areas.
Heat stress can build over several days, especially when nights stay warm. Check on older adults, young children, neighbors without reliable cooling, and anyone working outdoors, and call 911 if someone shows signs of heat stroke.
