Salt Lake City is starting Monday clear and around the low 70s, but the valley is headed for a smoky, steadily hotter stretch. Afternoon temperatures will reach about 91 degrees, with haze lingering before a heat surge pushes highs to 102 by Friday and Saturday.
Smoke Hangs Around Through Tuesday
Areas of smoke are expected across Salt Lake City on Monday, with patchy smoke continuing Monday night and Tuesday. Skies should remain mostly sunny, and rain is not expected through the week, according to the National Weather Service.
Northwest winds will run from roughly 2 to 9 mph Monday afternoon, following a dry cold front moving through the region. That front may briefly improve conditions in some places, but wildfire smoke is expected to remain a visibility and air-quality concern across northern Utah through at least Wednesday.
Heat Builds Into A Weekend Sizzle
Tuesday will look much like Monday, with sunshine, patchy smoke and a high near 91 degrees. Wednesday climbs to about 94, Thursday reaches 99, and Friday and Saturday are forecast to peak near 102 before Sunday eases slightly to around 100.
Overnight relief will be limited later in the week, with lows near 70 Thursday night and around 74 Friday night. The forecast remains extremely dry, with no meaningful chance of rain listed through Sunday.
Smoke-Sensitive Residents Should Take It Easy
Anyone with asthma or other heart and lung conditions should limit strenuous outdoor activity when smoke thickens, and residents should check local air-quality conditions before exercising outside. The Utah Department of Environmental Quality says smoke levels can change quickly, even when skies look mostly clear.
