A 21-year-old driver was killed late Saturday when his vehicle slammed into a concrete barrier and overturned along Loop 410, after police said it had been traveling at an estimated 90 to 100 mph. He was alone in the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The single-vehicle crash happened around 10 p.m. on the eastbound frontage road near NW Military Highway, in the Castle Hills area, according to News 4 San Antonio. Responding crews found the vehicle overturned and determined the driver had died.
Investigators said there were no immediate signs that intoxication played a role. The man's name will be released after the Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office confirms his identity and authorities notify his next of kin.
Loop 410 Crash Investigation Remains Open
Castle Hills police, the department's Criminal Investigations Division and fire crews worked with the San Antonio Police Department's traffic investigators, the Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office and TxDOT's HERO program, according to the station's report. No charges were announced in the initial report, and police said the crash remains under investigation.
Another Deadly Wreck Hit Loop 410 Last Month
The latest fatality comes after a separate crash on the Southeast Side in early July, when a passenger was ejected and killed after a speeding vehicle left the eastbound access road, according to Hoodline's coverage. Police said the driver showed signs of intoxication in that case, which occurred away from Saturday night's North Side wreck.
For now, officials have released no name for the latest victim and no additional details about what caused the vehicle to leave the roadway beyond the preliminary speed estimate. Investigators are continuing to piece together the crash.
