A man walked into Padilla Grocery on San Antonio's West Side, grabbed multiple cases of beer, and allegedly threatened to shoot a 28-year-old employee before running off with the stolen alcohol. The incident happened on August 5 at the store, located at 3000 Culebra Road, and police are now asking the public for help tracking the suspect down.
Crime Stoppers of San Antonio is requesting the public's help identifying the man, according to KABB. The suspect allegedly threatened to shoot the employee before fleeing the store with the beer, per the outlet's reporting. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 210-224-STOP (7867).
A Threat That Changes Everything Legally
What might otherwise be treated as a low-level shoplifting case carries much steeper legal stakes because of the alleged threat. Padilla Grocery has long served as a neighborhood market on San Antonio's West Side. Culebra Road, where the store sits, is designated by the city as one of its high-injury transportation corridors, spanning 15 miles and recording more than 110 fatal or serious-injury traffic incidents over a five-year period, according to KSAT. West Side residents have previously petitioned city leaders and police for dedicated storefront substations to boost officer presence along commercial strips, per the San Antonio Express-News.

This is not the first time San Antonio police and Crime Stoppers have appealed to the public over a beer theft accompanied by threats of gun violence. In April, Hoodline reported that two men stole beer from a clerk at a Northwest Side convenience store and threatened to shoot the worker who confronted them, an incident that also drew a $5,000 reward offer. San Antonio police have also previously investigated multi-incident retail crime series, including a 2024 case in which two teenagers were charged with aggravated robbery after robbing three East Side grocery stores within three weeks, according to KENS 5. It remains unknown whether detectives suspect the Padilla Grocery suspect in any other recent convenience store thefts around the city, or whether surveillance footage from the store captured his face or a vehicle.
