San Francisco is waking up today to temperatures near 56 degrees and a blanket of low clouds, but the gray start will give way to mostly sunny skies. The city is expected to reach about 70 degrees, making for a pleasant afternoon before another cool, partly cloudy night.
Sunshine should break through by late morning, with temperatures climbing through the 60s and peaking near 69 degrees during the afternoon. West-southwest winds will build from roughly 5 to 13 mph, with gusts up to 20 mph, so exposed streets, bridges and waterfront paths could feel noticeably breezier.
Coastal Flooding Arrives With Evening Tides
A Coastal Flood Advisory begins at 5 PM today and remains in effect through 2 AM next Thursday, for low-lying bayshore locations around San Francisco Bay, San Pablo Bay and Monterey Bay. The National Weather Service says up to 1.7 feet of water could push above ground level in vulnerable areas, including roads, parks and shoreline trails.
The San Francisco tide gauge is expected to reach its highest level of the advisory period next Sunday around 10 PM, with the tide running 1.7 feet above normal. Isolated road closures are possible, and officials advise people not to drive, bike or walk around barricades or through water of unknown depth.
Sunny And Warmer Through Sunday
Tomorrow should be mostly sunny with a high near 73 degrees, while next Sunday is forecast to be the warmest day in the city at around 77 degrees. Overnight lows will stay relatively mild, near 60 degrees tomorrow night and 59 degrees Sunday night.
The heat will be more serious inland, where temperatures are expected to run 10 to 15 degrees above normal through the weekend and heat risk could reach moderate to major levels. Near-critical fire weather conditions are also expected in higher terrain because of very hot, dry conditions, even though San Francisco itself will remain moderated by the ocean.
Warm Spell Eases Next Week
Temperatures are expected to settle back toward the low to mid-70s next Monday through Thursday, with highs near 72 next Monday, 74 next Tuesday, 75 next Wednesday, and 74 next Thursday. The marine layer and overnight coastal cloud cover are also expected to become more noticeable again early next week, bringing back San Francisco’s familiar foggy-morning routine.
