Solvi, the niche perfume boutique that set up shop on Pierpont Avenue in Downtown Salt Lake City, has moved into a bigger space just a couple of doors down from its original storefront, giving it room to stock even more fragrances from Utah, the rest of the country, and abroad. The boutique's founder and chief scent curator, Maya Hall, has organized the shop's growing collection into 15 distinct fragrance families, including woods, musk, leathers, and florals.

According to FOX 13 News Utah, Hall said the family-based system is meant to help customers navigate the shop's inventory without the pressure of a hard sell, letting shoppers sample scents and land on collections that work as something like conversation pieces. That approach lines up with how Solvi describes itself: Utah's first dedicated niche perfume boutique, built around personalized consultations rather than pushy sales tactics.

The shop's new location still sits at 341 Pierpont Avenue, on a stretch of the historic corridor that started life in the late 19th century as an industrial warehouse district before it converted into today's walkable mix of arts, dining and retail spaces, according to PierPont By Urbana. The brick warehouses that once held freight now house lofts, galleries and independent businesses like Solvi.

A Dedicated Table for Utah Fragrance Makers

Inside the expanded shop, Solvi has carved out a Utah table spotlighting three homegrown brands: House of Cosmo, Pineward Perfumes and Ghost Stories, per the same FOX 13 News Utah report. House of Cosmo's 2025 release Crimson Aura pairs top notes of black cherry, red wine and olibanum with a warmer base of vanilla planifolia, tonka bean and amber woods, aimed at date-night and special-occasion wear, according to Solvi's own product listing.

Pineward Perfumes, founded by perfumer Nicholas Nilsson, takes a different tack, building micro-batch botanical scents around pine, fir and other North American conifer notes. The brand's use of concentrated absolutes aims for photorealistic forest smells without the pressure of limited-run drops, according to Parfumo.

Solvi Anchors a Cluster of Sensory-Focused Shops

Solvi isn't operating in isolation on Pierpont Avenue. Luxury fragrance house Scents of Wood opened a boutique next door in late 2025, and its founder, Fabrice Croisé, has taken to calling the block Sensory Street given its concentration of scent-focused shops, sound studios and artisan cafes, according to cityhomeCOLLECTIVE. Having a fragrance curator like Solvi sitting beside a fragrance creator like Scents of Wood is the kind of dual-shopping setup rarely found outside major retail hubs like New York City, per the same outlet.

Croisé founded Scents of Wood in 2020 and now operates the brand out of Park City, using organic sugarcane alcohol aged in vintage wooden barrels to build tree-inspired scents rooted in the Japanese practice of shinrin-yoku, or forest bathing. He previously developed fragrances for Lancôme and co-founded EB Florals before launching his own house, according to reporting from bynez.com.

Riding a Wider Boom in Niche Fragrance

Solvi's expansion lands amid a broader surge in the fragrance business. The global perfume market was valued at an estimated $60 billion in 2025 and is projected to climb to $63.5 billion this year and $96.1 billion by 2033, fueled by consumers treating scent as a form of emotional self-expression, according to Grand View Research. Eau de parfum made up the largest single product share of that market, at 42.1%, in 2025.

New fragrance brand launches accounted for nearly one-third of overall prestige beauty dollar growth in the US last year, driven by consumer appetite for discovery sets, mini sizes, and niche boutique offerings, according to beauty research firm Circana as reported by Glossy. Mini and travel-sized fragrance units grew at twice the rate of the overall category, a trend that fits Solvi's own sample-bag model of letting shoppers try before they commit to a full bottle.

What the Name Solvi Means

The boutique's name traces back to the Latin word for “to dissolve,” a nod to solvent extraction, the chemical process perfumers use to pull botanical essences from raw materials. Hall chose the name to reflect both that technical heritage and the shop's focus on pure, small-batch artisan scents, according to Solvi's own account of its origin story.

Solvi's move also arrives as Pierpont Avenue itself keeps evolving. Salt Lake City's Redevelopment Agency has approved a master plan for the adjacent Rio Grande District that would extend Pierpont Avenue west from 600 West to Woodbine Court, part of a multi-phase plan that includes utility upgrades, transit-oriented development, and expanded housing, according to Building Salt Lake.
