Phoenix police said they received multiple reports of a shooting and responded to a home in the area around 3 a.m., where officers found the victim with a gunshot wound. Phoenix Fire crews transported him to a hospital, and as of the latest update his condition remains life-threatening.
According to ABC15 Arizona, multiple suspects were detained at the scene of a nearby traffic stop as officers worked to piece together what led to the gunfire. Phoenix police have not released the identity of the victim, and it remains unclear whether the detained individuals have been formally charged or what circumstances precipitated the shooting. The investigation is still active, per the outlet's report.
A Familiar Stretch of Southern Avenue
This is not the first time this particular corridor has made headlines for gunfire. Just one mile east of Sunday's shooting, Phoenix police responded in March to a late-night shooting near 24th Street and Southern Avenue that left one man wounded, with another person detained nearby, as Hoodline previously reported. The precinct's headquarters at 400 West Southern Avenue sits less than 3 miles east of Sunday's shooting scene, putting emergency responders relatively close to the incident.
