Lake Michigan Conditions Turn Dangerous
The biggest concern for Sunday is along the shoreline, where high waves and dangerous currents are expected through Monday morning. The National Weather Service in Chicago says waves could reach 5 to 8 feet, creating life-threatening swimming conditions, especially for inexperienced swimmers.
Beachgoers should stay out of the water and avoid piers, jetties, breakwalls and other shoreline structures. Scattered showers may linger southeast of Chicago through midday, but most of the city is expected to stay dry.
Dry Stretch Arrives Monday
Clouds should thin Sunday afternoon before a mostly clear night with a low near 64 degrees. Monday looks sunny and comfortable, with a high around 76 and light east-northeast winds.
Tuesday will bring a warmer, sunnier day with temperatures climbing near 82 degrees. Winds should remain light, making it the calmest part of the week for outdoor plans.
Storm Chances Return Wednesday
Showers and thunderstorms become possible after 1 p.m. Wednesday, when the high is expected to reach about 80 degrees. Storm chances increase Wednesday night, with showers and thunderstorms likely during the evening and overnight hours.
Some storms could produce heavy rain, and localized flooding is possible because the ground has already been wet from recent rainfall. Thursday stays unsettled with another chance of showers and thunderstorms and a high near 77, while Friday and Saturday bring warmer temperatures with smaller storm chances.
