Kiante Nakia Ageous was shot and killed just before 2:50 a.m. on June 1, 2025, outside an East Side 7-Eleven in San Antonio, and a 33-year-old woman riding with her was shot in the leg and survived. More than a year later, the case remains unsolved, and investigators have just released new images of a vehicle they believe was involved in the deadly ambush.
According to WOAI News 4 San Antonio, detectives believe Ageous was followed after leaving Vibes Bar and Grill before she was ambushed at the gas pumps. Investigators have not said how many people were inside the suspect vehicle, which they describe as a maroon or burgundy sedan, and they're now asking the public to help identify and locate those responsible.
How the Ambush Unfolded on Rigsby Avenue
Per KSAT, police say two people got out of the suspect vehicle the moment Ageous parked at the pumps and immediately opened fire on her car. Investigators noted that no argument preceded the shooting, underscoring how deliberate the attack appeared to be.
Crime Stoppers records cited by San Antonio Crime Stoppers show the vehicle had been waiting near Vibes Sports Bar and Grill, at 2603 Rigsby Avenue, until Ageous left, then trailed her less than a mile west to the 7-Eleven at 3054 Rigsby Avenue, at the corner of South W.W. White Road.
The Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office identified Ageous on June 11, 2025, confirming she died from multiple gunshot wounds and formally ruling her death a homicide, KSAT reported.
A Basketball Standout Remembered on the East Side
Before the shooting, Ageous was known on the East Side as a standout basketball player at Houston High School in San Antonio, where she averaged 21.2 points and 11.2 rebounds per game. She went on to sign for Division I basketball with the University of Arizona Wildcats in 2009, according to University of Arizona Athletics.
Citywide Homicides Fall, But the Rigsby Avenue Corridor Stays Troubled
San Antonio recorded 105 homicides in 2025, down 17% from 127 the year before and continuing a decline from a peak of 231 in 2022, according to KSAT's analysis of San Antonio Police Department data.
Even so, the Rigsby Avenue corridor has kept seeing violence. San Antonio firefighters found a burned body wrapped in materials off the 1500 block of Rigsby Avenue on March 28, opening a separate homicide investigation, Hoodline reported at the time.

Under Texas Penal Code Section 19.02, murder is a first-degree felony punishable by five to 99 years or life in prison, according to FindLaw — the sentence anyone eventually charged in Ageous's killing would face if convicted.
