Fenway Park is about to get another Zac Brown Band encore, and this one could add a fresh notch to the group’s already absurdly successful Boston résumé. If Sunday’s concert sells out, the Atlanta group will reach 15 sold-out shows at the ballpark and extend a record it already owns.
As reported by The Boston Globe, Brown has called Fenway his “favorite place to play in the world,” a place he says he does not expect to stop returning to anytime soon. Zac Brown Band first played the ballpark in 2014 and has continued stacking sellouts, turning the Red Sox home into something resembling a second headquarters.
Another Fenway Record Is On Deck
The band’s official timeline lists its 14th Fenway sellout in 2023, following a run that has included 12 consecutive sold-out shows and an induction into the Fenway Music Hall of Fame in 2022. That puts Zac Brown Band in especially decorated company alongside Paul McCartney and Billy Joel, according to the band’s official timeline.
The Sunday concert is part of the Nucar Fenway Concert Series presented by Wasabi Technologies, with Old Crow Medicine Show joining the bill. The Boston Red Sox says doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the show starts at 7 p.m.; Hoodline first previewed the return in January.
Brown Is Bringing A Different Kind Of Show To Boston
The Fenway performance will not simply recreate the band’s recent Sphere residency in Las Vegas, where Zac Brown Band played eight shows for roughly 18,000 guests per night. Brown told The Boston Globe that the vulnerability he brought to those shows will remain part of the band’s performances, even as the Fenway production takes its own shape.
Brown has also teased an undisclosed surprise for Sunday, saying it could be something that has never happened before. That gives concertgoers two reasons to keep an eye on the scoreboard: a possible 15th sellout and whatever history-making curveball the band has been keeping off the set list.
