A four-story, 124-room extended-stay hotel could soon rise less than half a mile from Aurora's new Hollywood Casino and the Chicago Premium Outlets, with the Aurora City Council set to weigh the proposal at its meeting on Tuesday, September 8. The ECHO Suites by Wyndham hotel would sit at 1350 Corporate Blvd., in a stretch of North Farnsworth Avenue that has seen a wave of new commercial activity since the casino's relocation this summer.

The proposal was discussed at the city council's committee of the whole meeting Tuesday, as reported by the Chicago Tribune. If approved, the hotel could open next year, offering 51,000 square feet across four stories with 136 parking spaces, a guest laundry room, a fitness room, and vending areas — a layout that matches Wyndham's standardized ECHO Suites prototype, which the company introduced in 2022 as a nationwide extended-stay model built on less than two acres, according to Wyndham Hotels & Resorts. Wyndham opened its first ECHO Suites location in Spartanburg, South Carolina, in July 2024, part of a pipeline of nearly 270 planned locations aimed at capturing long-stay travel from construction workers, traveling nurses, and other guests booking a week or more, per Hotel Dive.

A Corridor Reshaped by the Casino's Arrival

The hotel site sits just under half a mile from both the casino and the outlet mall, according to the Tribune's report. Aurora 1st Ward Alderman Daniel Barreiro, who represents the ward containing both the casino and the proposed hotel site, said the development could take advantage of its location near the new resort and could also draw guests who want lodging without visiting the casino at all, offering overflow options for visitors to the outlets and other nearby attractions.

Other businesses have been appearing around the same stretch of Farnsworth Avenue in the past year and a half, including a Panda Express, a Potbelly Sandwich Shop, a Buffalo Wild Wings, and a nail salon, the Tribune's reporting notes. The nearby Chicago Premium Outlets already anchors the area as an open-air retail draw of more than 700,000 square feet and over 170 stores, a footprint that expanded in 2015 with the addition of 2,200 parking spaces, according to Simon Property Group.

Casino's Numbers Fuel the Growth

The Hollywood Casino Aurora, a $360 million land-based entertainment complex, opened in late June 2026, replacing the riverboat casino that had operated in downtown Aurora on the Fox River since 1993, according to PENN Entertainment. Hoodline previously reported on the resort's spa and celebrity dining lineup ahead of its opening. The new complex includes a 226-room hotel, roughly 1,200 gaming positions, a 12,000-square-foot event center, and a wellness spa.

According to Illinois Gaming Board data released in early August, the casino generated $17.4 million in revenue in July and welcomed nearly 156,000 visitors that month. Officials said those figures represent nearly double the admissions and revenue of the downtown Aurora casino during the same month in 2025, per the Tribune's reporting.

Traffic Concerns Collide With Ongoing Roadwork

Barreiro said traffic, congestion, and north-south travel remain the ward's main concerns, and he specifically flagged safety where cars merge from Interstate 88 onto Farnsworth Avenue. He said a semi-truck nearly got into a serious accident in the merging lanes there, underscoring what he sees as an urgent safety issue even as the city works to expand capacity nearby.

Aurora has already added lanes and medians on Bilter Road and North Farnsworth Avenue as part of the Hollywood Casino development, and traffic signal improvements are underway between the tollway and Sheffer Road. The city also launched a broader 1.73-mile roadway expansion in early 2026 to widen Farnsworth from four to six lanes near I-88, adding new traffic signals, multi-use bike paths, storm sewers, and water main relocations, according to the City of Aurora. Separately, the Illinois Tollway scheduled temporary ramp closures and detours at the I-88 Farnsworth interchange in June 2026 as part of a toll plaza reconstruction project not expected to finish until 2027.

If the hotel is approved, the city plans to conduct a traffic study, per the Tribune. Aurora officials have said the city would not use incentives to bring in the development, a contrast with the casino relocation itself, which the city supported through municipal bonds backed by incremental real estate taxes covering less than 15 percent of the $360 million project cost.

Who Barreiro Is and What Comes Next

Barreiro spent 35 years as an Aurora municipal staffer, retiring as Chief Community Services Officer in 2021, before being appointed alderman in 2024 and winning election in 2025. He now serves as vice-chair of the council's Rules, Administration, and Procedures Committee and sits on the Finance Committee, giving him a hand in both the budgetary and procedural questions the hotel proposal could raise.

Any hotel guests would be subject to Aurora's 6 percent municipal hotel occupancy tax, which applies on top of state lodging taxes for stays under 30 days and is generally dedicated to local tourism promotion and economic development. The council's Tuesday vote will determine whether the ECHO Suites project moves forward alongside the rest of the Farnsworth corridor's rapid buildout.
