Two men held up El Regreso Market at gunpoint on Blue Hill Avenue in Dorchester Thursday morning, cleaning out both the cash register and the lottery register before fleeing on foot, according to Boston police. Now investigators are asking the public for help tracking down the pair responsible.
The robbery happened just after 11:15 a.m. Thursday at the store located at 322 Blue Hill Avenue, according to an official community alert from the Boston Police Department. Officers from District B-2 in Roxbury originally responded to the call, and B-2 detectives are now leading the investigation, though the department is directing public tips to District E-13 detectives. As reported by MassLive, the store's victim described the two suspects as appearing Hispanic with dark skin.
Investigators say one suspect displayed a gun to the store employee and demanded money while the second suspect went behind the counter. That second man removed all the cash from both the primary register and the store's lottery register, per the police account relayed by MassLive reporter Irene Rotondo. Both men then fled down Lawrence Street toward Normandy Street, according to the same police alert.
A Corridor With a History of Armed Holdups
This is not the first time this stretch of Blue Hill Avenue has seen an armed robbery. In June 2025, District B-2 detectives put out a similar community alert after two men robbed the Cristian Convenience Store at 411 Blue Hill Avenue, less than a block from El Regreso Market, at gunpoint. And in July, B-2 detectives sought a person of interest tied to an attempted armed robbery near Quincy Street and Blue Hill Avenue, roughly half a mile away, per the same police account.
Hoodline previously reported on an armed robbery involving a knife at another shop along Blue Hill Avenue in March, and on a shooting near the same corridor in August. The address at 322 Blue Hill Avenue itself has a history in police records, having previously been logged for a hit-and-run property damage collision in July 2026, according to Boston Police Department district journals.
Severe Penalties Await If Suspects Are Caught
Under Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 265, Section 17, armed robbery with a dangerous weapon is a felony that can carry up to life imprisonment, according to the General Court of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The law also imposes a mandatory minimum of five years in state prison for a first offense if the robbery was committed while the suspect was masked or disguised.
Despite the recurring incidents along this stretch of Blue Hill Avenue, citywide data shows major violent and property crime has fallen sharply over the long term. Boston Police Department figures cited by the Sampan Newspaper show so-called Part 1 crimes dropped roughly 39 percent between 2017 and August 2026, even as isolated store robberies continue to worry corridor merchants.
A Busy, Changing Commercial Strip
Blue Hill Avenue is no quiet side street. The corridor running through Roxbury, Dorchester, and Mattapan supports nearly 37,000 people getting on and off buses each weekday, according to the City of Boston, making it one of the region's busiest small-business thoroughfares. The Boston Planning & Development Agency has also approved new development nearby, including a project with ground-floor retail at 376-384A Blue Hill Avenue, signaling continued investment along the strip even as robberies persist.
