San Jose police officers discovered a dead person near the intersection of Coleman Avenue and Autumn Parkway early Sunday morning, along a stretch of the Guadalupe River Trail. Officers had responded to a report of suspicious circumstances in the area when they made the discovery.
According to NBC Bay Area, police said officers responded to the report near the Guadalupe River Trail intersection early Sunday and found a deceased individual. Investigators said the case remains an active and ongoing investigation, and no additional details about the identity of the person or the circumstances of the death have been released.
A Corridor With A Troubled Recent History
The stretch of trail near Coleman Avenue and Autumn Parkway has drawn police response before. Hoodline previously reported that a man suffered life-threatening injuries in a brutal daytime assault with a deadly weapon just steps from West Julian Street and Autumn Parkway in March.
Citywide Homicide Numbers Offer Context
San Jose recorded 26 homicides in both 2025 and 2024, matching for the lowest annual homicide count in the city in at least a decade, according to FBI Uniform Crime Reporting data analyzed by San José Spotlight.
The Coleman and Autumn corridor has also drawn emergency crews for reasons unrelated to violence. In June, San José firefighters battled a Tier 1 vegetation brush fire at the same intersection, briefly snarling traffic on routes near San José Mineta International Airport.
Trail Safety Efforts
To help address safety concerns along the corridor, the San Jose Conservation Corps operates a Trail Safety Team, whose corpsmembers patrol the trail in pairs on electric bicycles to report hazards and suspicious activity, per the organization's own description of the program.
It remains unclear whether Sunday's discovery will prompt any new safety measures or expanded patrols along the trail.
The identity of the person found Sunday has not been released, and investigators have not said whether the death is being treated as a homicide. San Jose police said the investigation is ongoing.
