Boston is waking up under cloudy skies Wednesday, but the city should get a mostly dry and partly sunny day before rain and thunderstorms return late tonight. Temperatures will rise from the mid-60s this morning to around 70 degrees, with east winds between 7 and 10 mph.
Storms Target The Early Thursday Commute
The quiet weather starts to unravel after 1 a.m., when showers and thunderstorms become likely. The National Weather Service Boston/Norton expects the Boston-area corridor to have its best chance of storms toward the early Thursday morning commute, with a low around 63 and roughly a half-inch or less of rain possible.
Thursday looks like the week’s main weather headache, with showers and thunderstorms likely through much of the day, cloudy skies and a high near 75. A strong storm or two could develop in the afternoon, while brief heavy rain may cause poor-drainage or localized street flooding in vulnerable urban spots.
Brighter Weather Returns For The Holiday Weekend
The forecast improves sharply after Thursday. Friday should be mostly sunny and warmer near 80, while Saturday turns cooler near 70 with only a slight chance of afternoon showers; Sunday looks mostly sunny near 67, followed by a sunny Labor Day Monday near 72.
That is a meaningful shift from Hoodline’s earlier Boston forecast, which focused on Tuesday’s soaking rain and lingering fog. For boaters, a Small Craft Advisory remains in effect for parts of the southern waters until 8 a.m. Wednesday, with east winds and seas building to rougher-than-ideal conditions later in the day.
