A book box at 5th and Markwell Park in Moore now holds something anyone can take home for free: a book, no questions asked and no donation required. The City of Moore announced the installation of the new Tiny Library, a project completed by Boy Scout Ben Choate as part of his path to Eagle Scout.
A Free Book Box Built From Scratch
The City of Moore announced the installation, and KFOR reported that the Tiny Library at 5th and Markwell Park had been filled with books. The box functions as a free book-sharing station: residents may take a book or contribute one of their own.
Visitors do not need to bring a book in order to take one home, the city notes on its parks page for 5th & Markwell Park. The setup allows residents to take and share books.
An Eagle Scout Project
Ben Choate completed the Tiny Library as his Eagle Scout project, working with his troop to bring the project to the park. The troop secured materials, built the structure and stocked it with books, according to the city. Scouting America’s Eagle Scout Service Project Workbook says the Scout must lead the service project to fulfill the Eagle requirement; the city identifies Choate’s project as the Tiny Library. Installation was finished in September 2026.
The station is now fully stocked and open for use at the park.
How the Book Box Fits Into Moore’s Services
The park box adds an informal book-sharing option to Moore’s existing public resources. According to the City of Moore, the Moore Public Library is open seven days a week and offers reading areas, current resources, free Wi-Fi and free meeting rooms, providing formal library services alongside the park’s free book-sharing box. The arrangement also follows a broader community exchange model. Little Free Library reports more than 200,000 libraries in 128 countries and 500 million books shared globally; those figures describe the organization’s network, not Moore’s single box. The organization also says volunteer stewards help promote a book-sharing box and keep it clean and inviting, a general model for maintaining such a station.
City Invites Residents to Stop By
The City of Moore has encouraged residents who are able to bring a book to share when they visit, keeping the shelf stocked for future readers. Officials have also invited people to stop by the park, take a book, and settle in to read on-site.
For now, the Tiny Library stands as a quiet but tangible addition to 5th and Markwell Park, built by Boy Scout Ben Choate and his troop. Neighbors can help keep the shelf stocked by passing books forward, one title at a time.
