Cooler Holiday Weather Brings Breezy East Winds
The latest forecast from the National Weather Service calls for east winds of 10 to 15 mph, with gusts reaching 25 mph during the afternoon. Rain chances remain limited at about 20%, with any showers or storms most likely arriving between midafternoon and early evening.
Monday night should turn partly cloudy, with a low around 70 and another slight chance of showers or thunderstorms before 7 p.m. There are no watches or warnings in effect for the Atlanta area, so Labor Day plans can move forward, though anyone staying outside should keep an eye on the sky.
Heat Rebuilds By Midweek
Tuesday looks mostly sunny with a high near 87, followed by another mostly sunny day Wednesday near 89. The brief holiday cooldown is already on borrowed time, as temperatures climb to around 90 Thursday and Friday and reach about 91 Sunday.
Storm chances also increase later in the week. Showers and thunderstorms become likely Thursday afternoon with a 60% chance of rain, followed by a 50% chance Friday and a 40% chance Saturday, according to the extended forecast.
That is a meaningful shift from the earlier Hoodline forecast, which had called for a warmer Labor Day and a higher storm chance. For Monday, at least, Atlanta gets a calmer reset before the heat and humidity begin making their late-week comeback.
