A bullet tore through the bathroom wall of a Fort Pierce home late Sunday night while two adults and five children were inside, marking at least the third shooting to strike a residence in the area within a two-week span. No one was hurt, but the gunfire has left investigators piecing together whether the violence is connected.
According to WPBF 25 News, Fort Pierce police officers responded to the 700 block of South 29th Street at 11:35 p.m. on Sept. 27 after receiving reports of shooting activity. When they arrived, they found that the home had been struck by gunfire, with two bullets penetrating the structure — including one that entered the bathroom. Officers also recovered two spent shell casings near the property, and no injuries were reported.
Questions Remain About a Possible Connection
WPBF 25 News reached out to the Fort Pierce Police Department to ask whether Sunday's shooting was related to earlier gunfire incidents in the area, though no confirmation of a link has been reported. The uncertainty echoes an earlier round of shootings along Avenue L, where police offered conflicting levels of certainty about how the incidents fit together.
On Sept. 22, CBS12 reported that Fort Pierce police said three shootings along Avenue L were connected and targeted. But according to Yahoo News, police described the incidents only as appearing related — based on the proximity of the locations, the firearms used and the evidence left at the scenes — while stopping short of confirming that connection as of that date.
A String of Gunfire Across the Neighborhood
The documented Avenue L shootings happened on Sept. 15 and twice more on Sept. 18, per the CBS12 report. One of those Sept. 18 incidents struck a home in the 3100 block of Avenue L, where a woman and four children were inside at the time; no one was reported injured, WPBF 25 News noted.
That same day, according to the Yahoo News account, a home in the 1100 block of North 32nd Street had its rear windows shot out while a resident was sleeping inside, more than 17 hours before the Avenue L shooting — again with no injuries reported. Three days earlier, on Sept. 15, two men exchanged gunfire during a verbal altercation in the 3100 block of Avenue L, striking vehicles and property before both fled the scene, the outlet reported.
A police major described that more recent gunfire as targeted and possibly retaliatory rather than random, per the Yahoo News report, though no one had been arrested or taken into custody in connection with the incidents as of Sept. 22. It remains unclear whether investigators have identified any suspects or a motive tied to Sunday's shooting on South 29th Street, and no arrest has been reported in that case either.
