A child was struck by a car in Fort Lauderdale on Saturday and rushed to a nearby hospital as a trauma alert, according to first responders. The crash was reported in the 500 block of Southwest 27th Avenue.
Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue officials said the child was transported to a nearby hospital following the crash, and officials confirmed the child was being taken to Broward Health Medical Center, as first reported by WPLG Local 10. The child was an 8-year-old boy. The driver was located, and no arrests had been made at the time of the report. The northbound and southbound lanes in the 500 block of Southwest 27th Avenue were closed because of the crash. Authorities have not released the child's condition or shared additional details about the crash, according to the same report.
Because the child was designated a trauma alert, regional EMS procedures address pediatric trauma-alert criteria and transport destinations for injured children.
