A 38-year-old woman from Greeley, Colorado was found unresponsive in a cornfield in Lyon County after being ejected from her vehicle in a rollover crash, and she was flown by helicopter to a Nashville hospital with life-threatening injuries. The woman was identified as Ashley M. Meads-Lemon.
According to West Kentucky Star, the crash happened along U.S. 641 roughly four miles north of Eddyville, though KFVS12 reported Kentucky State Police responded to the scene around 8:52 p.m. at a location about 4.5 miles north of the town. Investigators believe Meads-Lemon's vehicle, identified as a Jeep Commander, failed to make a curve near Coleman-Doles Road, ran off the roadway, struck a mailbox and the headwall of a concrete culvert, then rolled over, ejecting her.
Responders found her unresponsive in a nearby cornfield after the crash, according to the outlet's reporting. She was subsequently flown by an AirEvac helicopter to a hospital in Nashville for treatment of what were described as life-threatening injuries.
Speed and Alcohol Suspected, Investigation Ongoing
Authorities believed that speed and alcohol could have been contributing factors in the crash, per the same account. The crash remains under investigation, and no further details on citations or findings have been released.
The road near the crash site, close to Beck Road, was blocked for about an hour and a half while crews handled the investigation and cleanup, the report noted.
