A Retro Jazz Act With Deep Chicago Roots
Yves Francois Rocambu Jazz, an ensemble scheduled to perform at Cragin Park, was formed in 2002 by bandleader Yves Francois, a recipient of a Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs award, according to Intercultural Music Production. The group specializes in retro Afro-Caribbean, Latin, highlife and New Orleans jazz rhythms, and Francois was mentored by Chicago jazz legend Franz Jackson.

The festival takes place at a recently overhauled facility. Cragin Park underwent an infrastructure upgrade that introduced a modern fieldhouse with a half-size gymnasium, clubrooms, an expansive lobby and an accessible outdoor terrace, according to the Chicago Park District. The park itself dates back nearly a century, having been established between 1927 and 1928 after the Fullerton Avenue Highlands Improvement Association petitioned the Northwest Park District for a neighborhood recreation space, before becoming part of the consolidated Chicago Park District in 1934. The park spans 3.26 acres between Diversey and Fullerton avenues.
