According to CBS News, the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office confirmed the crash was a police officer-involved accident and that Miami-Dade Fire Rescue transported one person to the hospital. Traffic camera footage from the scene showed an SRT vehicle present, but MDSO officials clarified that the tactical unit's vehicle was not itself involved in the impact. The agency's Traffic Homicide Department is now investigating exactly how the crash unfolded.
As of Tuesday evening, MDSO had not released the cause of the crash, and no potential charges have been announced against anyone involved. The station's report on the incident is still developing, and several key details remain unresolved: officials have not said whether the deputy was inside a secondary vehicle, on foot, or responding to an existing traffic stop when the crash occurred.

In December 2025, Deputy Leo Cantave was critically injured near the same NW 41st Street corridor while assisting Florida Highway Patrol with a separate crash, according to CBS News' earlier reporting. That case led to DUI and reckless driving charges against driver Lonnel Brinson, who pleaded not guilty in Miami-Dade court.
