Downtown Los Angeles is starting Friday cool and humid, with temperatures around 65 degrees before a sunny afternoon reaches about 81. The quiet start will give way to a warmer, wetter holiday weekend, with rain chances downtown and dangerous surf along the coast.
Sunny Friday, Warmer Saturday
Friday night should remain mostly clear, with a low near 65, while Saturday turns sunny and warmer with a high around 84. South winds will run about 5 to 10 mph during the day, keeping the afternoon breezy without making it feel particularly dramatic.
Rain Chances Rise Saturday Night
Showers could move into the picture after 11 p.m. Saturday, when the chance of rain reaches about 40%. The forecast calls for mostly cloudy skies and possible rainfall amounts between a tenth and a quarter of an inch.
Sunday Looks Unsettled Across LA County
Sunday brings a roughly 40% chance of showers, followed by a chance of showers and thunderstorms between late morning and late afternoon. Moisture from Tropical Cyclone Marie, which is expected to remain well offshore, is helping fuel the unsettled pattern, according to the National Weather Service.
The latest forecast sharpens the weekend timing and adds a more serious coastal warning to the outlook previously published by Hoodline. Downtown could see mostly light rain, but isolated heavier showers or thunderstorms remain possible across Los Angeles County.
Beachgoers Face The Bigger Hazard
The National Weather Service has issued High Surf and Coastal Flood advisories for parts of the coast from 6 a.m. Saturday through 11 p.m. Tuesday, along with a Beach Hazards Statement extending through Tuesday evening. South-facing beaches are expected to see larger waves and potentially deadly rip currents, so swimmers should stay near lifeguards and avoid rocks, jetties and the water’s edge.
Heat Returns Next Week
Labor Day should be sunny with a high near 87, followed by mostly sunny skies and highs around 88 Tuesday. Wednesday may reach 89 with a slight chance of afternoon showers, while Thursday looks sunny again with a high near 88.
