A man was found unresponsive with multiple gunshot wounds to his chest inside a home on the 3300 block of West Flournoy Street in East Garfield Park just after noon on Friday, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office has since ruled his death a homicide, determining he died of multiple gunshot wounds. His identity and age have not been released, and no one has been arrested in connection with the shooting.
Chicago police said the shooting happened at 12:05 p.m. Friday, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. Area 4 Detectives are now investigating the case. That unit covers the 10th, 11th, and 15th police districts, per the CBS News Chicago. The Chicago Police Department also provides day-to-day patrol in the neighborhood.
A Block With a Violent History
The 3300 block of West Flournoy Street has seen gun violence before. On November 23, 2025, a 25-year-old man was shot multiple times in an alley on the same block and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition, according to CBS News. The repetition of shootings on this stretch of the block underscores a pattern that has long troubled the surrounding blocks of East Garfield Park.
The neighborhood's struggles show up in the numbers, too. Citywide trends provide broader context: Chicago logged 416 homicides in 2025, a 29 percent drop from 2024 and the city's lowest annual homicide total since 1965, according to NORC at the University of Chicago.
Clearance Rates Come With Caveats
The Chicago Police Department reported a 71 percent homicide clearance rate for 2025, up from 56 percent the year before, according to FOX 32 Chicago. The reported figure is a measure of homicide clearances.
Illinois law includes provisions on first-degree murder. The offense is subject to sentencing under state law. The shooting remains under investigation.

In June, a 32-year-old was killed on West Flournoy, on the 3900 block, also investigated by Area 4 detectives. A May shooting left another man dead on the same block of West Flournoy Street, and a separate incident that same month left two people dead in a shooting on North Homan Avenue. In April, a 30-year-old man was shot on the front porch of a home in West Garfield Park, and in March, two people were killed in a shooting on West Washington Boulevard that ended with a suspect in custody.
The victim's identity, a motive for Friday's shooting, and whether investigators will develop leads without an arrest remain open questions as Area 4 Detectives continue their work.
