South Halsted Street between 63rd and 64th hosted the 6th Annual Englewood Music Festival on Saturday, as the event pulled in an expected crowd of more than 5,000 people for a free, day-long mix of music and neighborhood resources. Syleena Johnson headlined the noon-to-8-p.m. event, according to CBS News.
A Festival on South Halsted Street
This year's festival was hosted by 16th Ward Alderman Stephanie D. Coleman and staged along South Halsted. The projected attendance of over 5,000 was reported by the Chicago Crusader.
This year's lineup featured Johnson alongside Southern soul singer King George, Kenyotta & KenChris, Kemistry, and Pastor Derail Smith, according to the Chicago Crusader. Past festival performers have included Boosie Badazz, Le'Andria Johnson, Kelly Price, Juvenile, and Kindred the Family Soul.
Music Meets a Community Resource Fair
Before the mainstage acts took over, the festival opened with a two-hour community resource fair offering health screenings, back-to-school supplies, youth activities, and a dedicated senior pavilion, according to the event listing on Eventbrite. The same listing describes an “Englewood Arts Village.”
The festival's programming included Pastor Derail Smith and the Cosmopolitan Warriors, per the Chicago Crusader.
Big-Name Sponsors Keep It Free
Keeping the event free to attendees was supported by a list of partners. The 2026 festival listed partners including Google, Amazon, Airbnb, Wintrust, Hennessy, the Illinois Lottery, and the local nonprofit Grow Greater Englewood, the Chicago Crusader reported.
The festival's history in Englewood extends beyond this year's event.
Not to Be Confused With Englewood's Other Music Fest
Englewood hosted a second major free music festival this same month: the Englewood Jazz Festival at Hamilton Park, a distinct event founded in 1999 by saxophonist Ernest Dawkins that celebrated its 27th anniversary in September, as Hoodline previously reported. The two festivals are separate events with separate histories, and both offer free, community-driven music programming each September.
