Fisherman's Wharf is about to get its own slice of a winter wonderland. San Francisco on Ice, billed as the city's newest and largest holiday ice rink, is set to open Nov. 4 at 80 Jefferson St., bringing a 6,300-square-foot outdoor skating surface and waterfront views to one of the city's busiest tourist corridors.
The seasonal rink will run through Jan. 18, 2027, spanning a 76-day season, according to KRON4. Daily hours are set for 10 a.m. to 11 p.m., giving locals and visitors a wide window to lace up skates against the backdrop of the bay. A separate account from Hotel Zoe San Francisco confirms the same Nov. 4 through Jan. 18 run, describing it simply as a waterfront ice rink coming to Fisherman's Wharf.
Organizers are projecting big numbers for the rink's debut. More than 50,000 skaters are expected to hit the ice during the inaugural season, and Fisherman's Wharf itself is expected to draw nearly 2 million visitors during the months the rink is open, per the station's reporting.
Who's Behind the New Rink
The rink is a project of On Ice Rinks LLC, whose CEO, Peter Mott, said the company is “incredibly excited to bring San Francisco on Ice to Fisherman's Wharf,” according to the same KRON4 report. Mott's LinkedIn profile describes him separately as the managing member and general manager of three existing holiday ice rinks located in Napa. On Ice Rinks LLC has said it plans to create a new destination for outdoor skating in San Francisco.
Michael Martin, executive director of the Port of San Francisco, offered his own take on what the rink means for the waterfront, saying it “brings a wonderful new dimension to the waterfront gathering tradition.” The Port of San Francisco issued a news release about the project, per the station's account.
Lights, Music and a Ribbon-Cutting
Beyond the ice itself, San Francisco on Ice is planned to feature holiday lighting and music, along with community programs, special events and holiday celebrations throughout the season. A ribbon-cutting ceremony with city officials and community leaders is scheduled for Nov. 4, the same day the rink opens to the public.
The Fisherman's Wharf project arrives as San Francisco's outdoor skating scene has been thin in recent years. The rink at Embarcadero Center had been closed for nearly seven years before the station's report was published, leaving a gap in the city's holiday-season ice options that San Francisco on Ice now aims to fill.
Tickets for San Francisco on Ice are set to go on sale Oct. 1, ahead of the rink's Nov. 4 opening.
