A Florissant police detective was dragged by a fleeing suspect's vehicle at a Vinita Park gas station on Monday afternoon, moments before a second detective fired a single gunshot through the car's rear window. The confrontation unfolded around 3:30 p.m. at the Conoco station at 8433 Page Avenue, where the two detectives had located a suspect wanted on felony warrants.
According to KMOV, the suspect put his vehicle in reverse and struck and dragged one of the detectives as he attempted to escape, prompting the second detective to fire a single round through the rear window. The suspect then fled from the gas station.
The suspect's vehicle was abandoned roughly one mile from the gas station, according to KMOV. Police had not located the suspect as the investigation continued. It remains unclear whether the suspect was struck by the shot fired through the rear window.
Veteran Detectives, Minor Injuries
The two Florissant detectives involved are 41 and 47 years old, with 18 and 23 years of law enforcement experience between them, the same VOP News STL report indicated. The detective who was dragged was treated at an area hospital for injuries described as minor and non-life-threatening.

In a separate July 5, 2026 incident near Bellefontaine Road and Larimore Road, county police said an officer fired at a vehicle after perceiving a threat; two juveniles were struck, a third suffered a minor injury from broken glass, and no officers were physically injured, according to the department's news release. Those accounts differ from the Vinita Park incident, in which a detective was dragged as a vehicle reversed and another detective fired through its rear window. The city's identification of the North County Police Cooperative establishes the municipality's designated police agency, but the available information does not specify how officer-safety responsibilities are divided when detectives from another municipality are involved.
