Kansas City is starting Friday in a blanket of dense fog, with visibility down to about a quarter-mile in spots and a few tricky hours for the morning commute. The fog should lift by late morning, making way for mostly sunny skies and a warmer afternoon near 83 degrees.
A Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect through 10 a.m. Friday for portions of Missouri, according to the National Weather Service. Drivers should slow down, use headlights and leave extra distance, especially on roads where visibility can change quickly.
Sunshine Friday, Storm Risk Saturday
Friday night should stay mostly clear, with temperatures falling to around 67 degrees and only a slight chance of showers after 1 a.m. Saturday will be hotter, reaching about 89 degrees, but the main potential for showers and thunderstorms is Saturday from late afternoon into the overnight hours.
The weather service is watching Saturday afternoon into the overnight hours for a marginal risk of severe storms, with damaging winds and hail listed as the main concerns. That storm risk is the biggest new wrinkle in Hoodline's earlier forecast, which also called for a warm, unsettled weekend.
More Storm Chances Arrive Next Week
Sunday stays warm near 86 degrees with a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms, while Monday briefly turns sunnier and hotter, with a high near 89. Rain chances return Monday and continue Tuesday through Thursday.
Tuesday could bring a high near 80 degrees before showers and thunderstorms become likely, followed by additional storm chances Wednesday and Thursday. For now, Friday afternoon is the cleanest window for outdoor plans before the weekend weather gets considerably less cooperative.
