An elderly man was trapped in a back room of his Northwest Miami-Dade home early Thursday after a fire broke out in his garage, forcing firefighters to rush inside and pull him to safety before rushing him to a hospital in stable condition. The blaze struck a house near 101st Street and Northwest 35th Avenue, where witnesses saw flames from the roof.
According to CBS Miami, the fire broke out in the home's garage and was later contained. The man was trapped in a rear room until rescue crews reached him. Witnesses told the station they saw heavy flames coming from the roof before emergency units arrived on scene. The station also reported that a household dog managed to escape the burning residence unharmed, while firefighters contained the fire.
