The mystery is over: Goodyear is the company behind Project Midwest, the sprawling 147-acre logistics and manufacturing development that has been rising near Peace Road and Fairview Drive in DeKalb. Construction crews were still at work on the site as of Thursday, with the tire company planning a warehouse distribution facility topping 1 million square feet on the property.
From Unnamed Project to Confirmed Tenant
Project Midwest is a 1 million-square-foot warehouse and distribution facility. Goodyear, described in the Shaw Local report as a leading tire, services and installation company, has now been named as the tenant driving the logistics, manufacturing and distribution warehouse taking shape off Peace Road. The outlet reports the project carries an anticipated completion date of mid-2027.
The DeKalb site gives Goodyear room to expand its warehouse distribution operation, and the same report indicates the company is seeking to increase its presence in the community and is looking for further investment locally. That appetite for growth is not confined to the Project Midwest site alone, either.
A Second DeKalb Location in the Works
DeKalb City Manager Bill Nicklas confirmed that Goodyear is eyeing a second location in the DeKalb Commerce Center, according to the same account. Nicklas said Goodyear has shared interest in investing further locally, a sign the company's plans for the area extend beyond the 147-acre Peace Road development already under construction.
The second location would extend Goodyear's presence in DeKalb beyond the Peace Road development.
Pilot Travel Stop Set to Open by Year's End
Separately, Pilot operators hope to open a travel stop by the end of 2026, marking another project taking shape along the Interstate 88 corridor, per the report. The travel stop is another project planned along the corridor.
Amazon's 1-million-square-foot distribution center in Kenosha, Wisconsin, was nearing completion in March 2015 and was expected to create an estimated 1,600 jobs, as reported by Industrial Distribution.
For now, DeKalb's own million-square-foot project remains under construction, with Goodyear's name now attached to the site and its ambitions for further local investment out in the open.
