Grammy-winning Chicana musician Martha Gonzalez is headlining a one-night return of Boleros De Noche at the Harris Theater for Music and Dance, bringing the Los Angeles-born bolero series back to Chicago for the second time. The show, billed as A Night of Romance and Rhythm, is set for 8 p.m. at the venue, which sits on the northern edge of Millennium Park.
Gonzalez will perform alongside Venezuelan pianist Marco Antonio Godoy, according to CBS Chicago. She is a singer-songwriter and percussionist for the Grammy-winning band Quetzal, and she also works as an activist and feminist music theorist, serving as an associate professor in the Intercollegiate Department of Chicana/o Latina/o Studies at Scripps/Claremont College. Separately, a Vesper Public Relations release describes her as a Grammy Award-winning Chicana musician, composer, and feminist music scholar headlining the evening alongside Godoy.
Joining them is Trio Voz Bohemia, a Los Angeles-based trío romántico rooted in bolero and ranchera traditions, made up of Mary Alfaro Velasco, Jesús Gudiño, and Ray Gudiño, per the same release. The trio's blend of romantic Mexican song styles fits squarely within the Boleros De Noche tradition, which the release describes as an acclaimed Los Angeles-based musical series.
A Series Rooted in a Decade of LA Bolero Nights
Boleros De Noche launched in Los Angeles in 2015 as an annual music event series, and the Vesper release notes its events have impacted more than 15,000 people and that it has presented over 15 concerts featuring international and local artists. The series has become something of an institution at the Ford Theater, where organizers say it has sold out the 1,200-seat venue for three straight years, according to the series' own site, bolerosdenoche.com.
Beyond Los Angeles, the operation says it is now bringing events to major cities across the United States, and Chicago has become part of that expansion. The Vesper release describes the current Chicago stop as returning to the Windy City following a successful Chicago debut in 2025, when the series brought its bolero showcase to Chicago's Symphony Center.

That 2025 Chicago debut welcomed 1,700 attendees at the Symphony Center, according to figures cited both by the Vesper release and by bolerosdenoche.com, which frames the stop as part of a broader 2025 national expansion. The 10th Annual Boleros De Noche event, hosted at the Ford Theater and featuring iLe, marked a decade of celebrating bolero in Los Angeles, with themes of romance and nostalgia. Voz Bohemia, a Los Angeles-based trío romántico rooted in bolero and ranchera, is also part of the Chicago lineup.
Some promotional materials tie the series to a civic honor back home: the City of Los Angeles declared August 1 as Día del Bolero.

Organizers are billing the Chicago performance at the Harris Theater as a one-night event.
