Portland is starting Wednesday under clouds and around 61 degrees, but the gray opening is a brief prelude to a warmer, drier stretch. The city should reach near 71 this afternoon with only a 5% chance of rain, and the bigger story is the weekend warmup that follows.
Clouds Give Way To A Warmer Weekend
Partly sunny skies are expected Wednesday afternoon as north-northwest winds stay light, then Thursday and Friday should be mostly sunny with highs around 76. Saturday rises to about 81, and Sunday looks like the warmest day in the near-term forecast at 82, with sunny skies and no rain expected.
Nighttime temperatures will stay cool enough for a jacket, dropping to around 52 Wednesday night and about 55 Thursday and Friday nights. Monday and Tuesday ease back into the mid-70s, but the dry pattern is expected to continue.
Fog Could Complicate Some Mornings
The National Weather Service Portland says patchy morning fog may form in protected inland valleys as clearer nights, light winds and cool air near the ground create low clouds. Where fog develops, visibility can fall quickly, even as afternoon conditions turn bright and mild.
Light Winds In The City, Breezier Terrain
Portland proper should see generally light north to north-northwest winds, though the regional pattern may turn breezier from Friday through the weekend. Exposed terrain and the western Columbia River Gorge could see stronger gusts, while valley winds may pick up during afternoon hours; no watches, warnings or advisories are posted for the forecast area.
For commuters and outdoor planners, Wednesday’s cloudy start looks more like a transition than a trend: the best stretch for patios, parks and weekend plans arrives Thursday through Sunday. Coastal and higher-elevation spots will stay cooler than the city, so Portland’s low-80s weekend should not be read as a region-wide heat wave.
